Description For multidisciplinary modeling and interpretation it is practicable to have automated model construction and/or model improvement tools for the different disciplines involved. We are working on an inversion algorithm for three dimensional density and susceptibility models derived from gravity, gravity gradient and magnetic data, respectively. The algorithm allows separate inversion of single fields and also a combined inversion of several fields (including the gradients).
At the moment the inversion is limited to the estimation of rock properties within a given model geometry. This inverse problem is linear and for its solution the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) approach is used. The algorithm can be applied to models built of rectangular prisms as well as arbitrarily formed polyhedra. The latter allows a direct application in the IGMAS+ software.
Further development aims at model geometry inversion in addition to the rock property estimation. Work on the solution of this non-linear problem is under progress.
