Immersive Visualization Laboratory

Description
For 3D visualization and modeling, a visualization lab has been built up at the institute. Starting as a stereoscopic projection system, it has been upgraded with an optical tracking system and various control devices. Intuitive and highly constrained forward modeling is one of the main motivations for our working group, but nearly all geophysical disciplines produce 3D datasets or at least 2D sections located in space. They can benefit from this installation and advanced visualization skills using e.g.:

-      IGMAS+

-      GoCAD

-      Paraview(GEO)

-      VRMLview

Immersive interaction is provided by head-tracking, tracking of pointing devices and six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) mice. Additional virtual control techniques for exploring the virtual world like a virtual multi-touch panel or a virtual Nintendo Wii™ Balance Board are under steady development.

Also high-resolution 2D map interpretation is supported by a 2x2 screen panel with a resolution of 4000x2400 pixels.
