Short introduction
Handling of measured and processed data, especially their long time availability, is very important in nowadays geoscience: Increasingly large amounts of data of very heterogenious type have to be managed.
The pure storage can be achived using databases, but indexing using metadata information and the possibility of visualization, e.g. using web mapping or desktop GIS, are tasks, which still have to be improved.
For the SFB 574, we have implemented a meta data catalog, where information about geodata can be managed in a central and easily accessible place. The web portal also incorporates web mapping technology, which makes the process of finding relevant data more intuitiv and quicker.
Because the complete data on the website is managed through a database, nothing get's lost anymore and all informations can be presented in their specific relationship - offering linkage to all aspects.
