Geophysical & petrological applications of satellite-derived gravity data

Project overview:

The new gravity data that is being provided by the CHAMP and GRACE satellites and the gradient data  that will be available from the GOCE mission, provide new opportunities to extend existing interpretations  in frontier regions where previously lacking data and help to quantify asperities in subduction zones. The NOGAPSGRAV project (NOvel Geophysical And Petrological applications of new- generation Satellite-derived GRAVity data with a focus on hazardous and frontier regions) uses satellite derived gravity and gradient data to study rigidity and structure of the crust and upper mantle in hazardous and frontier regions. A multidisciplinary approach has been followed to combine methods and create a new joint model based on geophysical and petrological interpretations.
