ICDP/KTB - VSP Zero Offset Shot Point
Zero offset shots were fired in shot field 101 which consisted of more than 40 holes each about 25 m deep.
The newly developed HT/HP (high temperature/high pressure) geophone registered the shots in different depths from 3000 to 8500 m in the KTB main hole. In the KTB pilot hole a reference geophone for quality control and static picking registered the shots at 3827 m depth.
Please also take a look at first examples of the seismic data registered during the April 1999 phase of the VSP experiment. The seismograms show the trace normalized, notch filtered, and inline rotated inline, crossline, and vertical component of the zero offset data. A combination of the zero offset April/September VSP data is clickable only for the vertical component so far. The varying trace spacing is due to a change of depth intervals during the experiment.
Photos of the KTB site, the sondes, the shot fields, etc. are also available on a seperate page.
